Musical Director
Raymond P. Woods has been the Musical Director of the South Coast Singers since January 2002. He is the Artistic Director of the South Orange County School of the Arts at Dana Hills High School where he has served as a vocal music teacher for over 25 years. Ray has an extensive background in music which includes being an accomplished pianist, organist and harpsichordist with over 30 years of experience in choral directing. He received his B.S. at Whittier College, an M.A. from Occidental College and has done doctoral studies at the University of Southern California. During his career he has founded and directed several community chorales and is currently in his 24th year as the choral director for the United Methodist Church in Garden Grove. He has touched the lives of innumerable families in South Orange County. Ray and his wife, Amy, reside in San Juan Capistrano, where they have lived for over 20 years. In November 2007, Ray was named Outstanding Arts Educator of the Year in Orange County.
Accompanist
An accomplished pianist and former student of Raymond Woods, Brian has been the South Coast Singers' accompanist since March 2002. He attended Dana Hills High School and the University of San Diego. Brian majored in computer science with a minor in music and piano. Currently employed as a computer software engineer, Brian is also the pianist at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Dana Point. He resides in San Juan Capistrano with his wife, Melissa, who is also a member of the South Coast Singers.
Jeffery Slamal
President
Besides his duties as President of South Coast Singers, Jeff is CEO and President of Resource Equipment, Inc. an ergonomic material handling and equipment design company. As an engineer, he spent 18 years in manufacturing management and the past 20 years in the design and sales of equipment which led him to his current position.
Jeff started singing in Jr. High Glee Club and eventually tried out and made “A Cappella Choir”. He picked up the drums at age 15 was self taught and in High School participated in marching and concert band. He formed his first band in 1962 and played for school dances and parties and continued playing throughout his adult life. He is a member of Songwriters Guild of America and is still looking to write that one hit wonder so he may fully retire.
Twelve years ago he invented a cymbal care product that is used throughout the world which led him to becoming a member of the National Association of Music Merchants, (NAMM). He lends his support to the NAMM Foundation and its goals for the support of music education in our nation’s schools. As a board member and CEO of “KwickTest, Inc”, Jeff was honored to be invited to Nigeria to participate in a medical mission at the request of the Ogun State Governor, Chief Gbenga Daniel. The goal was to raise awareness of the availability of inexpensive rapid diagnostic tests for HIV, Malaria, and Tuberculosis. He continues in this effort.
Jeff is originally from the Inland Empire where his family roots date back to the late 1800s. He and his wife Vicki now live in San Clemente. Married for 20 years, they share 4 children, Michael, Heather, Jeremiah and Alyssa who have honored them with 8 grandchildren from ages 2 to18 years old.
